What happened?

Investing today has become increasingly complex.

Between macroeconomic developments, company earnings, policy announcements and an endless stream of news, investors have more information to process than ever before.

If MooFest 2026 made one thing clear, it's that the role of a brokerage is changing.

Brokerages are increasingly looking at how they can support investors throughout the investing journey.

One of the biggest announcements at MooFest 2026 came from moomoo, which unveiled three new AI capabilities: Moomoo AI Expert Mode, Moomoo Skills and Smart Money.

Together, they aim to integrate AI more deeply into the investing experience by helping investors research, analyse and act on investment ideas more efficiently.

I spent time at the Moomoo AI zone trying out each of these features to see how they could fit into an investor's workflow. Here's what stood out.

What's new in the Moomoo AI upgrade?

Like many investors, I already use AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude to learn about companies and make sense of market news.

The challenge is that these tools stop at research.

They don't have access to live market data, understand my portfolio or integrate directly with my brokerage account.

The Moomoo AI upgrade announced at MooFest 2026 is aimed at closing that gap, with three features, each supporting a different part of the investing process.

FeatureWhat it does
Moomoo AI Expert ModeAn AI assistant built into the moomoo app that produces structured, analyst-style research reports, can pre-fill trades from natural language instructions and more.
Moomoo SkillsConnects moomoo's real-time market data and trading capabilities to external AI agents such as Claude and other AI tools you already use.
Smart MoneyTracks the disclosed holdings and recent moves of well-known investors and institutions, alongside insider trading activity.

Let me walk through what each one does.

What is Moomoo AI Expert Mode?

Moomoo AI, first introduced in June 2025, is the AI assistant built into the moomoo app.

If you've used it before, you'll recognise it as the chat interface that answers investment questions.

Expert Mode takes this a step further.

Instead of generating a conversational response, it approaches your prompt like an analyst would by breaking it into research tasks, pulling relevant market and financial data, and presenting the findings as a structured report.

Because it's built directly into the moomoo app, I don’t need to install additional software or connect external AI tools.

I can simply ask a question, and it gets to work.

#1 – From simple to complex questions

The quality of the output ultimately depends on the question you ask.

I started simple: "Is Tesla worth investing in now? Give me an analysis using moomoo's valuation tools."

Expert Mode broke the question into research steps and returned a structured report built on the underlying figures.

I could also ask it to compare the dividend yields and price-to-book ratios of DBS, OCBC and UOB before deciding which of the three local banks deserves a spot in your portfolio.

And if I want to push it further, I can ask for a heatmap of monthly returns across S&P 500 sectors over the past 12 months:

#2 – From analysis to trade in one conversation

This is where Moomoo AI goes beyond being a research tool.

I can also tell it to "place a limit order to buy 100 shares of NVDA at US$235", and it pre-fills the order ticket for me.

I would still review and confirm the order myself before it is executed. So the AI handles the typing, but the decision stays with me.

Beyond individual trades, Moomoo AI can also analyse your portfolio and produce systematic portfolio reports, and even turn a trading idea described in plain language into an algo strategy, complete with a historical backtest.

If the results fit your risk profile, you can authorise it to trade automatically in the live market.

 What are Moomoo Skills?

If Expert Mode is moomoo bringing AI into its own app, Moomoo Skills is the reverse: bringing moomoo into the AI tools you already use.

Many investors have built a research workflow around ChatGPT, Claude or other AI assistants.

The limitation is that these tools lack access to real-time market data and cannot act on what they find.

Moomoo Skills addresses this by letting external AI agents plug directly into moomoo's market data and trading capabilities, through skills you can install from the Moomoo Skills Hub.

Once connected, your AI agent can pull exchange-grade real-time data across five major markets, layered with technical, capital flow, and derivatives analysis.

In practice, that means the AI tools you already use can work with live quotes, financial data and stock screens instead of stale information.

What I found most interesting is the quant angle.

I can describe my trading strategy in plain language, and the agent generates the strategy code, runs the backtest, and can even execute it.

Moomoo calls this quant without code, and it lowers a barrier that used to require real programming skills.

Naturally, security is an important consideration whenever AI is connected to a brokerage account.

Moomoo isolates trading credentials from the AI, encrypts data transmission and requires investor confirmation before any live trades are executed.

What is Smart Money?

Smart Money is the simplest of the three to understand, and probably the most immediately useful for newer investors.

The idea: if you don’t know where to start looking for opportunities, start by seeing what top investors and institutions are already doing.

Smart Money brings this together through three tools:

Insights tracks the disclosed holdings of well-known investors such as Warren Buffett and Cathie Wood. Publicly disclosed position changes are captured and surfaced in the app, so you can see what the big names have been buying and selling without digging through filings yourself.

Institutional Tracking gives you a view of institutional holdings by industry, individual stock weightings and how they have changed over time. You can also subscribe to specific institutions and receive alerts when their disclosed positions change.

Insider Trading shows how many company executives are currently buying versus selling their own stock, side by side, as a quick read on insider sentiment.

The important thing to remember is that these disclosures aren't real-time.

For example, institutional holdings in the US are typically reported through quarterly filings, which can be submitted up to 45 days after the end of each quarter.

That means I'd treat Smart Money as a source of investment ideas rather than a buy list.

Seeing that Warren Buffett has increased a position might prompt me to take a closer look at a company, but it doesn't necessarily mean the stock is still attractive at today's price or that it suits my own investment objectives and risk tolerance.

How could investors use these tools?

After trying the different features, I think the real value is in how they work together throughout the investing process.

For example, I could use Expert Mode to quickly research a company, Smart Money to see whether prominent investors or institutions have taken a position, and Moomoo Skills to refine or backtest an investment idea before deciding whether to place a trade.

The workflow also felt more connected because I didn’t need to switch between multiple apps to research, analyse and execute trades. A lot of the process can now happen within the same investing ecosystem.

That said, AI doesn't replace the need for independent judgement.

It can help summarise information, surface opportunities and streamline research, but it doesn't know your financial goals, investment horizon or risk tolerance.

I’d think of these AI features as a set of tools that help you make investment decisions more efficiently, not as something that tells you what to buy.

What would Beansprout do?

My main takeaway from MooFest 2026 is that AI in investing is moving past the novelty stage.

The first wave of AI tools gave us general answers based on general knowledge.

What moomoo showed at MooFest is the next step: AI grounded in real-time market data, aware of your actual portfolio, and built into the place where you execute your decisions.

The combination of Expert Mode, Moomoo Skills, and Smart Money makes it much easier to move from discovering an idea, to researching it, to testing a strategy, and ultimately placing a trade.

That more connected workflow is where I think the platform delivers the most value.

But it also makes discipline more important.

As AI makes it easier to go from researching a stock to placing a trade, it's also easier to act too quickly.

While AI can help summarise information, surface opportunities and automate parts of the research process, it can't tell you whether an investment aligns with your financial goals, time horizon or risk tolerance. Those are still decisions only you can make.

For me, that's the right way to think about the Moomoo AI upgrade. It's not about outsourcing investment decisions to AI, but about using AI to become a more informed and efficient investor.
