How to access UCITS ETFs on SGX through Moomoo
In this article

This post was created in partnership with Moomoo Singapore. All views and opinions expressed in this article are Beansprout's objective and professional opinions.

What happened?

For Singapore investors looking to invest in US and global equities, Ireland-domiciled UCITS ETFs have become a popular option because of the lower US dividend withholding tax rate.

But many popular UCITS ETFs are traded on overseas exchanges such as the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

That is starting to change. DWS is dual-listing four existing Xtrackers UCITS ETFs on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), covering some of the most widely followed US and global equity indices

Ahead of their SGX listing, Singapore investors can subscribe to these ETFs exclusively through Moomoo during the early subscription period.

In this article, I’ll look at what the SGX listing of these UCITS ETFs means for Singapore investors, and how Moomoo allows investors to access and subscribe to them locally.

Which Xtrackers UCITS ETFs are coming to SGX?

DWS is bringing four existing Xtrackers UCITS ETFs to SGX, giving Singapore investors local access to several major US and global equity indices.

Together, the four ETFs provide access to different US and global equity exposures, from broad US large-cap stocks to developed markets globally.

What are the benefits of Ireland-domiciled UCITS ETFs?

#1 – Lower withholding tax on US dividends

Singapore investors who hold US-domiciled ETFs are generally subject to a 30% US withholding tax on dividends.

Ireland has a tax treaty with the US. As a result, an Ireland-domiciled ETF holding US shares is generally subject to a 15% withholding tax on US dividends at the fund level.

Typical US withholding30%15% at fund level
Amount remainingUS$70US$85

Over time, this can make a difference to the amount that remains invested and compounds.

#2 – US estate tax is another consideration

For non-US citizens who are not resident in the US, an estate tax return may be required if US-situated assets exceed US$60,000, subject to the relevant rules and individual circumstances.

Holding US equities through an Ireland-domiciled ETF may also reduce the investor's direct exposure to US-situated assets.

How can you access these UCITS ETFs through Moomoo?

#1 – Subscribe through Moomoo before the SGX listing

Before the ETFs begin trading on SGX, investors can subscribe to them through Moomoo during the early subscription period.

The early subscription period opened on 21 September 2026. Subscriptions for XWR close on 1 October, while XUS, EUS and XND close on 2 October.

The four ETFs are scheduled to begin trading on SGX on 13 October 2026.

Moomoo is the exclusive distributor for the four ETFs during the early subscription period.  Once they are listed, they can be traded on SGX like other ETFs.

During the early subscription period, investors can subscribe with a 0% subscription fee.

The subscription price is also based near the ETF’s net asset value (NAV), rather than buying through the secondary market where a bid-ask spread applies.

There is no limited allotment during the early subscription period for these ETFs and you will be able to get what you subscribed for.

#2 – Trade the ETFs in SGD during Singapore market hours

Previously, investors looking to access similar Ireland-domiciled UCITS ETFs often had to trade them on overseas exchanges such as the LSE.

With the four Xtrackers ETFs listed on SGX, investors can trade them in Singapore dollars and during SGX trading hours through Moomoo.

This removes the need to manually convert SGD into another trading currency just to purchase the ETF, while allowing investors to trade during Singapore market hours.

#3 – Continue trading the ETFs on Moomoo after listing at low cost

Investors can then continue to buy and sell them through Moomoo like other SGX-listed ETFs after the early subscription period.

For eligible new users, Moomoo currently offers 0% commission on Singapore stocks and ETFs for the first year. A platform fee of 0.03%, with a minimum of S$0.99 per order, applies.

After the first year, Moomoo charges a 0.03% commission and 0.03% platform fee, each subject to a minimum of S$0.99 per order. Other applicable exchange, clearing fees, GST and charges may also apply.

This gives investors a relatively low-cost way to access the four ETFs on SGX, while using the same Moomoo account from the initial subscription through to ongoing trading after listing.

How to subscribe to the Xtrackers UCITS ETFs on Moomoo

If you are interested in subscribing to the four Xtrackers UCITS ETFs before they start trading on SGX, you can do so directly through the Moomoo app during the early subscription period.

You will first need to have a Moomoo Singapore account with sufficient funds available for the subscription.

Moomoo will notify you of the subscription result through your account or an in-app notification.

Since the four ETFs have different early subscription closing dates, investors should also check the subscription deadline shown in the Moomoo app before submitting their application.

What should investors consider when accessing these ETFs through Moomoo?

While Moomoo makes it easier to access these UCITS ETFs locally, there are a few things investors should keep in mind.

#1 – Fees differ during the early subscription period and after listing

During the early subscription period, investors can subscribe to the four ETFs through Moomoo with a 0% subscription fee*.

After listing, the ETFs will trade on SGX like other ETFs. Normal Moomoo trading fees and other applicable charges will apply.

#2 – Your SGX holdings are held through Moomoo’s custodian account

Investors should also understand how their SGX holdings are held on the platform.

For securities held through Moomoo’s custodian account, Moomoo acts as the platform through which investors manage and trade their holdings.

As with any investment platform, it is worth understanding the custody arrangement, applicable fees and how transfers or withdrawals are handled.

What would Beansprout do?

For me, the key benefit of these new SGX listings is convenience.

If I were already looking for exposure to the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, or global developed markets through an Ireland-domiciled UCITS ETF, I would now have another way to access these investments locally without having to trade on an overseas exchange.

Being able to subscribe through Moomoo during the early subscription period, trade the ETFs in SGD during Singapore market hours, and continue holding and trading them through the same account after listing makes the process more straightforward.

That said, I would still make sure the underlying index fits the exposure I am looking for, rather than investing simply because the ETF is newly listed.

For investors who have already decided that one of these ETFs fits their portfolio, the Moomoo early subscription period provides a convenient way to access them ahead of their SGX listing.

Plus, Moomoo SG offers an attractive sign-up promotion, which is a bonus for new users who are looking to try out the brokerage platform.
