Why I'm not buying SGX, ST Engineering, AEM and Genting yet

• Earlier this year, we identified several themes we wanted to explore in the Singapore market, including AI and data centres, government spending, Singapore’s growth as a financial hub, and energy and security.
• That brought SGX, ST Engineering, AEM Holdings and Genting Singapore onto our radar for different reasons.
• Once we looked at earnings momentum, balance sheet strength and return on equity, the companies started to separate. SGX and AEM clear all three of our financial checks, while ST Engineering’s higher leverage and Genting Singapore’s weaker earnings and ROE deserve closer attention.
• Valuation changes the picture again. SGX, AEM and ST Engineering all trade above their historical average P/E multiples, while Genting Singapore trades below its historical average.
• That does not make Genting Singapore automatically more attractive. Its cheaper valuation comes with weaker earnings momentum and returns, while AEM’s higher valuation reflects a much stronger recovery in earnings.
• What matters for the Opportunity Pot is how growth, financial quality, valuation and the remaining risks come together, rather than which stock looks strongest on any single measure.
